FOCUSED, SOLUTION-BASED COACHING™ is based on the four cornerstones of current Leadership Coaching and Development.  These include:

  • Positive Psychology
  • Strength Development
  • Appreciative Inquiry
  • Measurable Results

After careful study, and more than 2,000 hours of coaching experience, we took the core ideas of these four cornerstones and created SOAR.  Our name for the four steps of our FOCUSED, SOLUTION-BASED COACHING™, SOAR stands for:

  1. S — Solution & Scaling
    What solution or outcome are you seeking to accomplish?
    On a scale from 1- 10 where are you now?
  2. O — Options & Opportunities
    What options do you have that might lead to these outcomes?
    What opportunities and other possibilities should you consider?
  3. A — Affirm and Action
    What are you already “doing right” that will help you reach your goal?
    What actions do you need to take now to move forward?
  4. R — Resources & Resolve
    What resources do you have that will help you reach your goal?
    What are you resolved to do now and in the coming weeks?

As part of our FOCUSED, SOLUTION-BASED COACHING™ we know it is important to show “measurable results”. To accomplish this we developed the Bernard James Leadership Inventory.  Based on the key dimensions that comprise effective leadership, we use our inventory at the beginning and end of every coaching engagement. 

At the beginning the inventory helps us “zero-in” on the leadership dimensions most important for success in a particular position and organization. Used at the conclusion of a coaching engagement the inventory helps our consultants identify and report measurable results of our coaching efforts.
